To mark our 25th anniversary year, SWON is running a composition competition.

Entry Requirements

• The competition is open to composers of all ages, backgrounds & experience.
• We are looking for a concert overture of approx. 6-8 minutes.
• ABRSM grade 5 level (average), playable by accomplished amateur musicians.

Judging Criteria

• Overall effectiveness of the piece in portraying the message or emotion, with harmonic flow and interest for all parts.
• Suitability of the composition for wind orchestra & the current instrumentalists of SWON.
• Demonstrating good musical understanding, including awareness of musical conventions, rhythm, melody, harmony, structure, and compositional devices, technical control and coherence.

Complete the form here to register interest/intent to enter. You will then be emailed the full Terms & Conditions & link to the final entry submission form, and assigned a unique & anonymous code with which to label your entry files.

Deadline for final entry submissions: 23:59 on 31st October 2024.

1st prize: £750 / 2nd prize: £500 / 3rd prize: £250

The winning pieces will be performed by SWON during our 2025/2026 season.
